Details

The Recycler (commonly referred to as the desmelter) allows you to smelt down crafted metal items into Ingots at a loss in material cost. An undamaged crafted metal item returns approximately 50% of the cost. The more broken the item is the less of the original cost is returned.

Location[]

It is located outside the Blacksmith house on the right side of the yard, opposite of the anvil.

Construction[]

There is one Recycler that can be built, it costs 50 Iron Ingots and 30 Coal to construct.

Use[]

Once you have deconstructed your tool or weapon, place the metal pieces in the large crucible on the left side of the machine - the portion attached to the bellows. Make sure there is fuel in the oven on the right, then pump the bellows to heat the metal until it disappears. Some metals take quite a long time to heat, like Valyan.

The bars in the middle indicate how much progress has been made towards the next ingot of that particular metal being returned. A full bar equals one Ingot. ie. If you smelt a blade worth 5 ingots you will receive 2 ingots back and 50% towards the next bar. The Recycler can only hold partial progress for three metals, if you smelt an item in a metal that is not currently one of the three in progress it will delete the oldest one. With this method only a max of one ingot of one metal can be wasted at a time.

Preheating your metal pieces can help speed this process along, especially with higher tier metals, this can be done with the Forge or by using the Ember Composer Blacksmithing skill (for blades).
